People believe that fish is a pet that does not interfere in our domestic life rather than the aquarium adds to the beauty of your house. This is considered as a pet that needs least care. Well there is no doubt that fish do not disturb your routine and it is true that a fish tank with fish increases the beauty of your house. But, this is a wrong concept that they do not need much care. The fact is that they are the most delicate pets and need proper care. If you are planning to keep an aquarium here are some things to keep in mind before purchasing an aquarium
The first thing is to decide which type of fish would you like to keep as pet. If you have some particular fish in mind, try to know all about this type of fish. It is important to have complete information about the fish you wish to keep because different kinds of fish are of different size (Full Size), They need different care, they require different conditions, different temperature, different space and also different equipments.
Study about the water requirements of different of different fish in the tank. (One inch of fish per gallon of water for small fish. One inch of fish per three gallons of water for large or messy fish. More than that for a marine fish.) Thus your choice of aquarium will depend on the expected size of a full-grown fish and its number. Another important thing to note is which different kinds of fish can be kept together, which are compatible.
Before buying a fish tank you must plan where you wish to keep it in your house and how much space can you spare for it? How far should it be from the wall so that there is sufficient space for cables etc?
You need to determine how much budget do you have to spend on keeping fish as a pet. Aquarium is not the only thing you need, there are other equipments like rocks, plants, filter, pump, lights etc. This might change your decision of keeping a particular fish.
After deciding which fish you will keep and what equipments are needed for it, you must also check if they are available at the nearby pet shop or not. In case they are not available there, place a special order and also confirm the time of availability.

Once you have collected everything setup the aquarium. Fill clean water into the tank and leave it for some days. This will help you to know that all the things in the tank are working properly and that there is no leakage.
Now you can put in the fish. Initially it is advised to put a starter fish into the tank. This fish should be healthy, small and inexpensive. It should be a fish, which you wish to keep for a long period.
You need to be patient for the next 4 to 8 weeks. Do not over feed your fish. Watch your fish’s behaviour closely. Do extra water changes. DO NOT ADD NEW FISH until your tank has finish cycling. Feed and observe your fish daily. Check the filters at least twice a week. Change 10 to 15% every week. You need to scrub for algae while you change water. You also need to check all hoses, fitting clamps, cords, lights and other equipments once every month.
